A Note from the CEO: What We’re Building at Solar Electric Systems

I’m Rob Gorrie, CEO of Solar Electric Systems. This is what we do, and why.

We build modular energy systems for environments where diesel shouldn’t be the only answer — and where the grid, fuel logistics, and communications can’t be assumed to work.

The SES System combines concentrator-photovoltaic (CPV) solar collection, modular battery storage, and integrated power electronics into a field-deployable platform rated for −40°C to +50°C operation. It’s built for defense, oil and gas, mining, telecom, and remote industrial operations — the places where a power failure isn’t an inconvenience, it’s a mission or a shutdown.

Where we’re focused

Defense and government

SES is NCAGE-registered and SAM-listed, and we’re in active engagement with the Department of National Defence, FedDev Ontario, and allied procurement channels. We’re positioning as a Canadian option for northern, expeditionary, and civil-resilience power — the kind of infrastructure that has to keep working when everything else has stopped.

Industrial energy

Oil and gas, mining, telecom, and remote operators are hitting the same wall: rising diesel cost, tightening emissions rules, and site-reliability failures that used to be tolerable and no longer are. Our economics compete on cost per kWh delivered — not on subsidy.

Frontier energy R&D

A growing IP portfolio in solar concentration, per-module maximum power point tracking, and thermal ruggedization is the technical spine under every deployment. It’s what lets the same platform work in an Alberta oil patch, a northern comms station, and an expeditionary base.

Why I’m here

My father, Bob Gorrie, spent decades on the client side of oil and gas operations around the world. He watched what it costs when energy fails in remote environments — in money, in safety, in mission continuity. He saw the CPV solution before anyone else was building it for field deployment. I came in to build it with him.

I’m bringing a background in technology and operations leadership to a problem that has, until now, been treated as somebody else’s job. It isn’t. Energy infrastructure that has to work in critical environments is worth engineering to the standard those environments demand.

Where we go from here

Prototype completion in Q3–Q4 2026. Commercial launch in 2027. First customer deployments across military, oil and gas, mining, and emergency response. We are actively raising capital to scale that trajectory and are in conversation with partners, customers, and investors in Canada, the US, and NATO countries.
